About Me
Hello! My name is Veronica Barbery. I am a licensed clinical social worker with expertise in the evaluation and treatment of depression, anxiety, self-harm and disruptive behavior disorders in children, adolescents and young adults. I specialize in cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and behavioral parent training. I also have extensive experience helping individuals and families cope with difficult life changes. I am a New Yorker turned Angeleno. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Towson University in Maryland, worked at Columbia University with the Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation Service for two years before moving to Los Angeles. I earned my masters in Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and I have worked at UCLA’s Youth Stress and Mood Clinic (YSAM) with Dr. Joan Asarnow.

Veronica Barbery - Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy
I trained and have worked at YSAM for over 10 years as a research and clinical therapist and most recently as a clinical and assessment supervisor. YSAM is a clinic dedicated to improving mental health in children and adolescents, and developing and evaluating treatments and services for depression and suicide prevention with a focus on enhancing coping and stress management while supporting families in caring for their children.

My training and work experience has helped shape who I am as a therapist. Through my work I discovered a passion for working with children and teenagers, specifically children and teens who are depressed, anxious and/or may exhibit suicidal or self-harm behavior. I’m also trained to assist and coach parents in understanding and coping with these types of issues and behaviors and in learning skills that can help them support their child.
I specialize in a range of clinical problems in children, adolescents and young adults including:
~ Depression
~ Emotion Regulation Difficulties
~ Self-harm behaviors (e.g. cutting) and suicidal ideation
